From Science to Science Fiction?
I came across a small little article in the Science section of the NY Times last week entitled, "Parasitic Hairworm Charms Grasshopper Into Taking it for a Swim." Basically this lab in France studies these worms that live in water-somehow change their form and live dormant in these grasshoppers until they feel the time is right to return to their homeland-the water. When the time is right- the grasshoppers have a sudden urge to jump-jump into the water-basically commit suicide since they don't swim-and the worms exit out and live a happily ever after. So the scientists are trying to study exactly how the worms take control-what happens to the brain function of the grasshoppers-all that kind of stuff.
This article just seemed to me the classic situation of aliens invading and control human minds-kinda scary huh? If worms can control the grasshoppers....who knows....:)
